Ways to get involved
Volunteering at Victoria Park
There are many ways to volunteer with us. Keep up with the latest news on our website, social media and newsletter (sign up below).
In the park:
One morning a week there will be a volunteer team supported by the park gardeners to regularly look after the park throughout the seasons. There will also be occasional opportunities to assist with projects such as tree and habitat surveys. We are also looking for people interested in planning the community garden space.
Digital:
In order to help raise the profile of the park and to reach a wider audience the digital footprint of the park will be growing. Volunteer opportunities are available to help with social media, the website, graphic design, video and photography.
Heritage:
Historic research volunteers are welcomed to help uncover and record the histories of Victoria Park. We are interested in the social history of the park; how the park has been used by local people; clothing & fashion; horticulture; the First World War TB dispensary, the WWII British restaurant, the naval memorials, and the different perspectives attached to them. Access to archives will be arranged.
Oral history volunteers will help to record the stories, anecdotes and personal histories of peoples’ experiences and memories of Victoria Park. The role will include talking to members of the public and recording their experiences of the park. Training can be provided.
Community:
Events volunteering will be an occasional volunteering position as and when events are run in the park. This can include helping with events organisation and set up, stewarding and surveys. The role does not require a regular commitment and volunteers can help as frequently as they want.
Friends group:
The Friends of Victoria Park group is open to anyone who like to help shape the future of the park. This is the easiest way to hear about what is happening on the project. Meetings take place once a month and you can join in person or online.
