The Fountain and Monuments

Heritage

The Fountain

The fountain is one of the original features from when Victoria Park was first opened in 1878.

Careful restoration works have taken place to renovate the existing fountain, these include:

  • Restoration of the upper fountain jet.
  • Repainting the cast ironwork including the four bronze swans.
  • Renovating and repainting the outer railings.
  • Improvement of the internal engineering requirements.

Monuments

The eight naval monuments in the park are memorials for people who lost their lives during past conflicts, two commemorate tragic accidents. These monuments and memorials are all listed by Historic England as Grade II listed buildings.

All the monuments have been surveyed and only two required minor restoration works. All monuments have received specialist cleaning.
