The fountain and monuments

The fountain

The fountain is one of the original features from when Victoria Park was first opened in 1878.

Careful restoration works are proposed to renovate the existing fountain including:

  • Restore the upper fountain jet
  • Repainting the cast ironwork including the 4 bronze swans
  • Renovate and repaint the outer railings
  • Improve the internal engineering requirements.

Monuments

The eight naval monuments in the park are memorials for people who lost their lives during past conflicts, two commemorate tragic accidents. These monuments and memorials are all listed by Historic England as Grade II listed buildings.

All the monuments have been surveyed and only two require minor restoration works. All require specialist cleaning.
