Victoria Park Portsmouth
The masterplan

Community Hub

What is proposed

The proposals for the future of Victoria Park include a new community/education hub that will provide the following facilities:

  • Two new accessible public toilets
  • A large open space for the community to use for a wide range of meetings and functions
  • A volunteer office
  • A kitchenette for community and volunteer use
  • An external covered area with hard paving for year-round shelter.

The proposed hub building will be located off the main avenue between the fountain and aviary. This location is currently occupied by the council depot and will come back into the public domain with these plans. No park land will be lost as a result.

Materials and environmental benefits

  • The exterior of the new building will be clad with a blend of natural clay tiles, bricks and large glazed panels to the main open space
  • The roof will have a green roof with various sedum plants. The roof will be pitched to face the sun to the south and designed to allow retro-fitting of photovoltaic solar panels
  • The heating system will be powered by an environmentally friendly air source heat pump. This system is a form of low carbon heating as it uses the outside air to heat or cool the inside of the building
  • Using sustainable technology, durable materials and a well-insulated structure overall, the building will have a low carbon footprint.
